Teaching Successfully Is Reforming The Qualities Already There

Science interests many people because it creates an immediate relevance for many aspects of modern life  -  medicine, communication, nutrition, space exploration, or the deciphering of the human genome. Yet public support of 'useful' science and thirst for discoveries creates a misleading perception  -  that the public interest in science is based on a real understanding of science, in short, true scientific literacy. It is important to know what science is and what it is not. Some examples; Facts are based on evidence, not authority; Justifying science is not understanding it. Science literacy must include an understanding of the history of today's knowledge. SciScript will play an active part in the public discussion about science to promote literacy and education.
