The 'Odyssey of the
Rational Mind' is a new lecture series intended to start a public
discussion about science in San Diego. It is geared towards young
people who would like to know what scientists, educators, and public
officials are doing and how they see the role of science in today's
society. The influence of science in everyday life and thinking
has reached unprecedented levels, yet its presence can be very subtle.
How do scientists who contribute to knowledge and technology
think about the consequences of their own work? Why are they doing
what they are doing? A long term goal of this Odyssey shall be an
exploration of the importance of science literacy, to help
people become scientifically versed and understand scientific thinking.
This series intends to bring current and intriguing scientific research
to a broader audience. To be a community means to stay in
touch and to talk about each others professions and ideals. The
lively and interactive format of the 'Odyssey of the Rational
Mind' lecture series is the perfect setting for this.
Everybody interested in science is invited to participate and to
see how science is part of our community. From research labs to
K-12 classroom, from
museum to botanical garden, the fruits of science can be seen every
where along the journey we call life. Why not take part in
creating and caring for this garden? The journey has just
begun.
